Living in a country which is rich in culture diversity, Malaysia, we had plenty of celebration going on the year round, which is fun even though it is not a public holiday. On this very day, (the 5th of 5th month in the Lunar calender) the Chinese celebrate Duan Wu Jie, which is the Chinese Rice Dumpling Day. So, to whoever is celebrating it, Happy Duan Wu Jie!
Nothing beat this as breakfast!
HISTORY
The history dated back thousand of years ago, this very day is celebrated in memory of this one Chinese patriotic poet. His patriotism leads to his death. He was trying to warn the Emperor about the expansion of the neighbouring Qin country which might cause trouble to the Kingdom of Chu. But the Emperor did not take his advice seriously, but when Yindu the Chu capital was taken by Qin's army, he was so heart-broken and finally tied himself up with a big rock and drowned himself in the Miluo River.
After such incident, people made the rice dumpling and threw it into the river to feed the fish, and also to prevent the fish to eat the poet's body. They also row down stream and beating drums making loud noise to scare the fish away which is believed that is the origin of the present day, Dragon Boat event.
Dumplings
There are different types of dumplings nowadays, it now became one of the Chinese delicacy (which used to be fish food : P ). Dumplings is consumed almost everyday now, it is available in most of the restaurants and many food outlets. And I had snapped a few types which is shown below.
Sambal Rice Dumpling

For this one, I believe only available in Malaysia for sambal is not a world wide type of food, but DANG! it is delicious! rating-4 outta 5 because the feelings is not feeling enough : )
Peanut and Pork
Closed Up
This is the very common type which many could get it at any restaurant or dim-sum place. But the one that I had just now, was not good at all, I had no idea why but since it was my personal favourite, I'll give it 3 outta 5. (maybe, it was suppose to taste salty, but this one is totally not)
Nyonya style
Closed Up
*Drum rolls* DANG! This is my new personal favourite. The Nyonya style Rice Dumpling, this once taste so good, for I was so stuffed yet I still want another bite of it, and ended up with stomached which is bad now (Argh!). Other than this three types, there are plenty more, the bean, plain rice dumpling (which you had to dipped some sugar) and many others! So, wait no more, grab some now and HAPPY DUAN WU JIE!
