The LEGENDARY night

This is the second part of the previous post, where I had been to Balai Ringin to attend Mr Ambrose's engagement dinner. Say no more, lets take a look what did I snap :)

The mysterious jar

To be honest, at first, I did not know what was inside as well, for I do not have the chance to ask, everybody was so busy doing their own work, and some more I am 'trapped' with Mr Sumbang. He was somehow sober due to the long period of drinking way before I arrive. He kept talking to me non-stop and keeps on going on and on. Well, I enjoyed it somehow too.

Naked feet

We went to the girl's side for the engagement dinner, and we'd been told that it is better to leave our feet glove in the car, and I do not know whether it is a stupid question or not, but I do remember asking, 'Why is that?" and the sister told me that you might actually lost it, even it is just some simple sandal, then I go, what the, even if you are invited to occasion like this, and you have to steal others' belonging, DANG!

Alright, let's move into the house...

This is where the deal's gonna be done

The patiently waiting families

Dowry (mas kahwin)

We hang out quite a while in the living room, while there are people flowing in outside the house when we do not even realize. and another part which we do not realize, we are at the VIP seats, because the following pictures is about both families making promises, deals for the son and the daughter (it is apart of the Iban community tradition)

everybody is here!

happiness shown on the guy's face but sorry for the girl's bad shot

Both parties giving their speech

Parents wishing their children well

Cake feeding (yum, yum!)

Oh! Another thing about the crowd, us (I am among those crowd as well!) are the witness for the engagement promises and vows. and I remember one of the group leader said this

"If we the witness see the guy going out with another girl or vice versa, DO NOT go and spread the news around the village creating rumours but go to the person and tell that person face to face!"

RESPECT!

As for the first picture, the mysterious gigantic jar shown at the beginning of the post, this is what it is about, there are three in total of them, the largest among those contains rice, which represent food for the will-be-family. And as for the two smaller one which for me is still big contains TUAK! which is for drinking competition, both side will have one each to finish, the one finish the fastest will have the fame gained, WOW!

Who say ladies cant drink?

Blurry cause everybody is in fast motion

The Guy side finished first! by his AUNTY!

ANOTHER SALUTE!

As I was looking through the whole drinking progress, I thought I am one heck of a drinker, but these people show you what really drinking is about! it was really a JAW-DROPPING scene!

Chug! Chug! Chug!

The entire night was all about drinking and drinking, food is the sidekick unlike in the Chinese community when we all gather, sit down, eat and drinking is the sidekick, but for the Iban community, drinking is much more important!

The newly engage couple, Mr Ambrose and Miss Ninie
CONGRATULATIONS!

After that, as I mentioned, it was all about drinking, the rest of the families, friends, invited guest continue to drink, dance to the music brought by local live band, (when they played Iban song which cause me to lost in trance). It was really a LEGEND...(wait for it!!!) DARY! LEGENDARY night :)

Drink...

and more drinks!

As the night went by, I had to leave the party, a bit after midnight, leaving the whole group which continue to drink (as I had been told, it lasted till morning)

It was one heck of an experience, I had lotsa fun, and thanks to Eve, the pre-gawai celebration was really awesome, and to the newly engaged couple, CONGRATULATIONS once again, looking forward for your wedding in a very near visible future. May the relationship be blissful. :)
